Cover: Immunohistochemical staining with VEGF antibody. Abundant staining is evident throughout the lung parenchyma in the hypoxic animals. Structures stained for VEGF in hypoxic rat lung include the following: alveolar epithelial cells (arrowheads, left panel ), vascular structures (black arrows), and large airways (open arrows, right panel ). VEGF staining was localized in endothelial, smooth muscle, type II, and bronchiolar epithelial cells. The photomicrographs are representative of three animals. Original magnification: ×400.
